Have you ever…

…felt alienated from Yoga spaces?

…been more stressed after a class that centers physical fitness?

…felt exhausted from daily discimination of your marginalized identities?

I would love to offer a space that celebrates people as they are and gives them the opportunity to be with themselves in a different way.

MY STORY

I completed my 200hr YTT with Akasha Academy in 2020, after over 10 years of self-practice, and in 2021 I became a Certified Accessible Yoga Teacher. I was first introduced to Yoga at 8 years old by my mom, and I took several Yoga courses throughout my youth.

Yoga became integral to me as a queer, neurodivergent person with anxiety disorder, depression, and chronic pain to recover from the outside world.

As I came into my practice, my mom had to give up hers because the Yoga spaces she visited catered to a younger, able-bodied audience that left her unable to participate.

Her and my own alienating experiences motivated me to become a Yoga teacher, to show my mom (and myself!) that marginalized people are not only tolerated but celebrated in Yoga & that Yoga is for everyone.

MY MISSION

I strive to create an accessible, trans & queer-centered environment that is internally focused and defies achievement-oriented, competitive ideas.

I am committed to learning with and from my students so we can create a safe(r) space that allows you to be present, connect to your intuition, and form a loving relationship with yourself.

As a white western Yoga teacher, it’s especially important to me to honor Yoga’s roots, emphasize its spiritual foundations & dismantle ideas of Yoga as a “fitness” practice.

I am always learning and growing, so I am grateful for criticism & feedback on how I can further improve my teaching & honor the marginalized communities at its roots.

TESTIMONIALS

“I 100% recommend doing Yoga with Anja! I appreciate that they're taking the time to incorporate not only the physical but the mental aspects of Yoga, too. In their classes, I feel absolutely welcome and the atmosphere is just relaxed and appreciative of every body (literally). Thank you for doing the classes like you do them.”

“Taking yoga classes with Anja was revolutionary for me. They showed me a new aspect of yoga that previous instructors failed to show me—that yoga is not about your outer strength but rather on your inner self and strength. After their classes I always have a sense of deep relaxation and peace with myself. Anja also manages to create a safe atmosphere for everyone. In their classes you can truly be yourself without any fear of prejudice whatsoever. Additionally they are very mindful of yoga’s origins and they pass on this mindfulness onto their students. I wholeheartedly recommend Anja’s classes.”

“Inclusive and accessible–with plenty of variations offered. I love their approach, particularly the way in which postures were provided as a suggestion or invitation. In my experience, their classes provide the perfect combination between movement, breathing and relaxation. I’m already looking forward to my next class. Highly recommended.”
